About Powder Keg Farm

My name is Priscilla and we are a family of Bernese Mountain Dog lovers with more than 35 years of experience in raising and showing these dogs. We have selected some of the best bloodlines in Europe and imported them in order to have a line of Bernese that are long lived and healthy. We place a special emphasis on good character and also use some domestic lines with strong genetic histories. I do not breed any other dogs and do not mix purebred Bernese with other breeds.

Breeding Philosophy and Health Screening

Although we are not commercial breeders, we show our dogs and occasionally breed select dogs to preserve the breed's best traits. Litters are limited and only planned from the very best dogs. The Bernese Mountain Dog is a shorter-lived breed with an average life span commonly cited at 7 to 10 years. We perform extensive research and health screening before breeding and follow or exceed recommendations from the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America and Bernese Mountain Dog Club of the Rockies.We do provide stud service of our males to qualified breeders.

Temperament and Home Life

Our dogs live as family members Midway, Utah. They have several acres to roam and are socialized to accept other animals and people. We prefer Berners that are confident and alert but never aggressive. We breed for health and temperament, and welcome visitors interested in learning more about the breed and our program.

Memberships and Showing

We are active in breed clubs including the Bernese Mountain Dog club of America(BMDCA) and the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of the Rockies (BMDCR) and we show our dogs at AKC events; we currently have multiple AKC champions. We encourage prospective buyers to prefer breeders who participate in clubs and showing, as these practices support transparency in health and temperament evaluation.
